Hong Kong MPF Intermediaries Exam FAQ

Registration · Format · Pass mark · Licence — 2026

Q1: Who runs the MPF Intermediaries Examination? Do I need to take it?

The MPF Intermediaries Examination is regulated by the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) and administered by the PEAK Examination Centre under the Vocational Training Council (VTC). Anyone in Hong Kong who sells, markets or advises on MPF schemes must pass this exam before applying to the MPFA to be registered as a subsidiary or principal MPF intermediary.

Q2: How many questions, how much time, and what is the pass mark?

The exam is a single-paper, closed-book multiple-choice test (MCQ). Exact question count, time limit and pass mark are set by MPFA and VTC PEAK and should be verified on their official channels. The general convention is 60 questions, 90 minutes, pass mark 70% (i.e. 42/60), but always confirm the latest figures before booking.

Q3: What does the MPF exam cover?

The syllabus is aligned to the seven chapters of the MPFA official Study Notes: (1) Introduction to the MPF System; (2) Regulatory Framework; (3) Key Features of the MPF System; (4) MPF Trustees; (5) MPF Schemes and Investment; (6) Interface Arrangements between ORSO and MPF; (7) MPF Intermediaries. Studying in chapter order is recommended.

Q4: Where do I register? How much does the exam cost?

The MPF Intermediaries Examination is administered by the VTC PEAK Examination Centre. Registration channels, exam venues, dates and fees follow PEAK official announcements — check the PEAK website for the latest schedule and pricing before applying.

Q5: What language is the exam in?

The exam is generally offered in both Chinese and English. Candidates may choose either language. Final language options follow PEAK registration arrangements.

Q6: Can I retake the MPF exam if I fail?

Yes. There is no cap on the number of retakes. Each retake requires a fresh registration and fee payment. Booking and retake arrangements follow PEAK official rules.

Q7: Where can I find MPF practice questions and official study material?

MPFA publishes only the official Study Notes and does not maintain an official question bank. PrepLicense (港試通) provides bilingual practice questions and mock exams aligned to all 7 MPFA syllabus chapters, with English and Chinese explanations. The MPFA Study Notes are available as a free download on the MPFA website.

Q8: After passing, how do I become a registered MPF intermediary?

After passing the exam, your appointing MPF firm (the "principal intermediary") must apply to the MPFA to register you as a "subsidiary intermediary". MPFA conducts a fit-and-proper assessment before approval. You may begin acting as an MPF intermediary only after registration. Full requirements follow MPFA announcements.
