About the CFA® Level I exam
The CFA® Level I exam is the first of three levels in the Chartered Financial Analyst® Program administered by CFA Institute. It is computer-based and consists of 180 multiple-choice questions in two 135-minute sessions (90 questions each, with an optional break between them), offered four times a year — February, May, August and November.

- Scoring: no penalty for wrong answers — answer every question. The minimum passing score is set by CFA Institute after each window and is never published.
- Eligibility: a bachelor's degree, or being within 23 months of graduation, or 4,000 hours of professional work experience / higher education combined.
- Fees: early registration US$1,140, standard US$1,490 — check CFA Institute for current fees and deadlines.
- Calculators: only the Texas Instruments BA II Plus or Hewlett Packard 12C are permitted.
