Frequently Asked Questions
Coverage
Which papers does the App cover? The six CMFAS insurance papers administered by the Singapore College of Insurance: RES5 (Rules, Ethics and Skills for Financial Advisory Services), CM-LIP (Life Insurance and Investment-Linked Policies), HI (Health Insurance), BCP (Basic Insurance Concepts and Principles), PGI (Personal General Insurance) and ComGI (Commercial General Insurance).
Does it cover CM-CIS, the securities modules, or the real estate (RES) exams? No. Collective investment scheme, securities, futures and private banking modules are outside the App's scope, and the real estate salesperson examinations are a different qualification under the Council for Estate Agencies.
Question bank scope? 3,920 questions in total — 2,450 practice questions plus a 1,470-question mock bank. By paper: RES5 750 + 450, CM-LIP 750 + 450, HI 250 + 150, BCP 200 + 120, PGI 250 + 150, ComGI 250 + 150.
Where do the questions come from? Every question is written from the SCI study guide for its module, the Financial Advisers Act 2001, the Insurance Act 1966 and the MAS Notices and Guidelines under them. Each question names the provision or chapter it tests so the explanation can be checked against the source.
Are these "real exam" questions? No. The examinations are proctored and their items are not published. All questions are original content authored in our own words to the published syllabus.
Study Paths
What is the path chooser on first launch? The App asks whether you are preparing for the life insurance path (RES5 + CM-LIP + HI), the general insurance path (RES5 + BCP + PGI + ComGI), or all six papers, and shows only the papers you chose on the home screen. You can change the path at any time in Settings.
I bought one path but now need the other. Upgrade to the all-six plan from the in-app paywall; Apple prorates the change within the same subscription group.
The Exam
Format? Multiple-choice, computer-based examinations taken at the Singapore College of Insurance. RES5 and CM-LIP are 150 questions each, HI, PGI and ComGI are 50 each, and BCP is 40. Durations, fees and dates are set by the SCI — see the current details on the SCI website.
Pass mark? Around 70% on every paper; the exact number of questions required is stated in each module's SCI study guide.
Can I retake a paper? Yes. Each module is booked separately, and a module that is not passed can be re-sat.
