About Taiwan's four insurance salesperson licence exams
The salesperson qualification tests are run by industry self-regulatory bodies authorised by the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) — the Life Insurance Association (LIA-ROC), the Non-Life Insurance Association (NLIA) and the Taiwan Insurance Institute (TII). To sell or introduce any insurance product in Taiwan you must pass the corresponding salesperson qualification test and register as a salesperson with the relevant association. All questions are single-choice, but the pass standard varies by licence — LIFE and PROP professional papers require a combined 140 or more with neither paper below 60, while FX and the common paper (Financial Market Knowledge & Professional Ethics) pass at 70.
The four salesperson licences and their administering bodies
- LIFE — Life Insurance Salesperson (LIA-ROC): 100 law questions + 50 practice questions
- PROP — Property Insurance Salesperson (NLIA): 100 practice questions + 50 law questions
- INVL — Investment-linked Insurance Salesperson (TII): 50 questions on investment-linked insurance & the financial system + 100 on investment theory (incl. calculations)
- FX — Foreign-currency Non-investment Insurance Salesperson (LIA-ROC): 50 single-choice questions, 60 minutes

About the Insurance Broker & Agent exams
The Insurance Broker and Insurance Agent qualifications are national professional & technical examinations administered by the Ministry of Examination. A broker arranges insurance contracts in the interest of the insured, while an agent solicits business on behalf of an insurer; both require passing the national exam. Subjects span insurance theory, insurance law, risk management, and insurance marketing — broader and more advanced than the salesperson tests.
