About the four qualification tests
Taiwan's securities and futures qualification tests are administered by the Securities and Futures Institute (SFI) under the supervision of the Financial Supervisory Commission's Securities and Futures Bureau. Passing the relevant test and completing registration is required to work in securities brokerage, futures brokerage, or investment trust and consulting in Taiwan. All four tests are four-option multiple choice with no essay component.
The four tests and their pass marks
- Securities Specialist: 2 subjects, 100 questions, pass 50 in each — the entry-level licence with the largest candidate pool
- Senior Securities Specialist: 3 subjects, 150 questions, pass 50 in each
- Futures Specialist: 2 subjects, 100 questions — scoring below 60 in any subject fails, a higher bar than the other three
- SITE Specialist: 3 subjects, 150 questions, pass 50 in each
The four tests overlap heavily. "Securities Trading Regulations & Practice" appears in the Specialist, Senior, and SITE tests; "Securities Investment & Financial Analysis" appears in both Specialist and SITE. The question banks are organised by subject and shared across tests, so preparing for several licences does not mean repeating the same questions.
